Free Willy!

28 03 2011

While I was at home watching the VCU upset yesterday, Michele was out running Karen to the airport.  Word got to her on the way back in that there were some orcas (a.k.a. killer whales) in the Gastineau Channel.  I tried to see them from our place, but no luck.  Michele, fortunately, had the camera and drove on the Douglas side – in the end, she got some amazingly awesome photos.

Enjoy…

This photo is for some perspective.  If you look carefully in the left-middle area, you can see the fins sticking out of the water.  And that’s downtown in the background.

In this one you can more clearly see the fin in the middle and downtown over there on the left.  These must have been “urban orcas.”

Photos From Around Town

18 03 2011

The sunset photos are from in front of our place, and the rest are from a trip out to North Douglas last weekend.  The sunset was rather remarkable – fortunately I had the blinds up and saw what was going on.  The North Douglas shots are mostly from a nice walk around Fish Creek.  It was really peaceful and quiet out there, and I even got into artistic mode for a few of the shots.

I know, always a treat for the blog!

Mind = Blown

15 03 2011

Last Wednesday night, I walked home and did not notice anything different than any other night.  I went inside, watched television for a few minutes, and then it was time to take Barkley out one last time.  I walked out with Barkley a little after 11pm, and guess what I found – the northern lights were out in full blast!

I grabbed my camera and snapped a bunch of photos right outside of our place.  Since I thought they were all pretty cool in their own way, I decided to post almost all of the photos that came out.  Enjoy!

The “Ice” Collection

9 03 2011

Again, right to the point – ice.  (Not the type of ice that Dog the Bounty Hunter has spent years fighting)

Since we had a stretch of super cold weather over the last couple weeks, there have been some huge chunks of ice floating in the channel and washing up near the shore.  And what else should a person do with them other than take artistic photos???  Okay, I don’t know so much about the artistic part, but I tried…

Really?

If I told you that this dog spent his first couple years in the hot weather of Louisiana, would you believe me?
