Some Random Nature Photos

30 06 2009

Here are some random photos I’ve been meaning to put up for a bit.  Every now and then, we try to take some close-up nature photos, and sometimes they work out pretty nicely.  Unfortunately, I can’t really narrate much on these because I have no idea what flowers they are (maybe Michele can chime in at some point to fill in the blanks).  However, I can probably tell you where the shots of running water came from – waterfalls.  I love the close-ups of the water!

Don’t Mess With The Barkley

29 06 2009

About a week ago, our buddy Jim was dog-sitting for Kate and Kevin.  He and Michele were out at Eagle Beach for a walk with their dogs and the Barkster.  Among the photos Jim took on that day was this one…

Alaska 014

While this photo is 100% real, the closeness of Barkley and the eagle is a little deceiving.  Barkley was giving chase, but the eagle was not in range.  Nonetheless, this photo is pretty awesome.

Afternoon Fishing

26 06 2009

We had the pleasure of joining Michele’s former co-worker Joe for a night of fishing last night.  We met up after work, ran around on the water for about 3.5 hours, and then Joe said we would only fish 20 more minutes.  Then this happened.

Our New Place

26 06 2009

As you may know, we have moved into a new place.  Our old spot is a duplex we were renting from some friends who had trouble selling the place.  It sold in May and we found a new place closer to downtown.  We’re now about a 12-minute walk from work, and still have an excellent view and a ton of windows.  On Tuesday night, we finally remembered to take a few photos of our new backyard.  Enjoy!

Yep, our new place had a visit from some bears the other night.  Our landlord messed up our trash pick-up, so it did not come last Friday as it was supposed to.  While we disposed of our trash elsewhere, our downstairs neighbors thought it was an OK idea to just pile it up and let it hang out of the cans.  That’s a  good recipe for bears.

Michele was on her way to bed and glanced out the window – it was around 11 – and saw this bear walk by.  then we walked to the front and also got to see her 3 cubs.  Of course, they were super cute, but we stayed inside and did not try to take one in as a pet.  Needless to say, Barkely was not fond of the bear going through our trash.

We Think This One Is Joe Walsh

17 06 2009

As I wrote earlier, our Saturday afternoon fishing trip (while horribly unsuccessful for salmon) was highly successful in seeing an eagle up close.  This guy was just sitting there for about 15 minutes on the grass.  I don’t know that we’ll ever get a shot that close up of a wild eagle.  Anyway, here they are…

Reflections Of A Boat

15 06 2009

This is a series that Michele and I combined to photograph.  This is also a series in which my sister – Lauren – claims to have taken better pictures.  We’re not so sure.  Enjoy…

The Signs of Skagway

15 06 2009

First off, we got some awesome eagle photos on Saturday.  We decided to go fishing with Tom and Kelly and Jim and Karen and Mike.  When we got to the rocks near the hatchery, there was a huge eagle just chilling up in the grass.  I got within about 10 feet of it for a photo.  Now that these guys are off the endangered species list, I guess they aren’t afraid of anything.  I need to get hose onto the computer, then they will appear on here.

Anyway, here are some of the signs of Skagway…
